If you have ever considered hiring a personal trainer, choosing the right one for you can be a tough decision.  Your personal trainer will be your biggest support, motivator, coach and friend.  It is important that you find a trainer who you connect with.  Here are our top 3 tips for finding a trainer that will motivate you to success!

  1. Qualified Personal TrainerEducation: Be sure your trainer holds a nationally accredited personal training certification(s).  This ensures your trainer has passed an examination of high standard and testing protocol.  Top agencies to look for are The National Strength & Conditioning Association, The American College of Sports Medicine, The National Strength Professionals Association or The National Academy of Sports Medicine.  Degreed professionals are also more common as the industry is developing.  Many personal trainers will also have Bachelors degrees or Masters degrees in the Kinesiology field.  This applies practical and clinical knowledge of the health and wellness field including exercise physiology, injury management and prevention, cardiac rehabilitation and qualifications to prescribe exercise to a high risk populous.
  2. References and Testimonials: Take a look at your trainer’s work experience and the people they are currently working with.  Gather your own information as you watch your trainer with their current clientele.  This allows you to see on the job experience with real people!
  3. Consult: Many personal trainers will gladly offer a consultation to discuss your needs and goals as a client.  Your consultation will be very informative as to what that trainer can offer but it is also a time to establish a connection.  You want to find a personal trainer that you will get along with and respect for a successful program.
